Tucked away beneath a historic hotel in the middle of the picturesque Cotswold market town of Cirencester is The Vaulted Spa, a petite but perfect pampering hideaway. 

The unique subterranean spa is a relatively new addition to The Kings Head and recent renovations have given a contemporary edge to the traditional wooden-beams and exposed brickwork.

As well as a steam room, sauna, hot tub and relaxation room, there are four tranquil rooms offering luxury treatments from a varied pamper menu. I was looking forward to being indulged in a new signature treatment, the Lime and Walnut Wrap, promoted by MONUSKIN to be ‘the ultimate heavenly head-to-toe body ritual that will help to ease away the stresses of life’.

KINGS HEAD LIME AND WALNUT WRAP TREATMENT REVIEW

The hour-long treatment, which is suited to all skin types, starts with a gentle body brush to encourage relaxation before the therapist applies a blissfully warm essential oil, combining grapeseed and lime, to your whole body.

A lime oil and crushed walnut shell body buffer is then used to gently exfoliate, allowing the skin to be infused by the oils with maximum effect. Words alone cannot describe the amazing aroma that filled the air; the uplifting citrus scent filled my sinuses and, as an added bonus, it lasted all day on my skin.

Once cocooned in a soft foil wrap (a strangely calm-inducing experience), I was left for a short while to indulge in dreamy relaxation, my body and mind a world away from their usual hectic state.

With the chilly weather, rainy days and dark mornings, I was in desperate need of some extra nurturing, and where better to be pampered than at the Vaulted Spa at The Kings Head…

FIND YOUR INNER CALM

During the envelopment, my lovely therapist, Elise, carried out a mind-calming scalp and face massage while the warm foil wrap finished working its magic. With the wrap then removed and my skin gently rubbed down to remove the oil and scrub residue, I was covered with an enriching body cream and a lime essential oil compress before being left to come back to reality and get dressed at my own pace.

By the time I left, my shoulders had definitely dropped a couple of inches and I not only felt as though I’d had a complete energising overhaul of my body and mind, but my skin felt exceptionally soft and nourished too.
